Could you name a hundred things that make life wonderful? A thousand? How about a million? When he was 7, a boy’s mother attempted suicide. In response, he started a list of things to live for. As he grows up, the list takes on a life of its own. From “Ice Cream” (#1 on the list) to “the Alphabet” (#999,997), Every Brilliant Thing shines a hilarious and compassionate light on dark corners of the human condition. Written by Studio Cabinet member Duncan MacMillan (1984, Lungs), and coming from a sold-out run last year, Studio brings Olney Theatre Center’s production to DC for SHOWROOM. A play about depression, resilience, and the lengths we will go to for those we love—told in collaboration with the audience.

STARRING JEFF HILLER
It’s the night before Josh and Brennan’s picture-perfect Palm Springs wedding, and their old friend Gerry arrives car-cranky and a few beers in, furious that the invitation demands that he “refrain from wearing bright colors or bold patterns.” Gerry stews poolside with his ex and the ex’s twentysomething boyfriend in this hyper-verbal and tragicomic one-man show that asks some essential questions about contemporary gay life: Why do people settle for assimilation instead of liberation? Where’s khaki in the rainbow? Is there any cocaine left?
Oh performs original music from her journal entries and the beyond, including selections from her Clairvoyance concert commissioned by A.R.T.
