As I'm sure you've heard by now, I'll be stepping down as Artistic Director at the end of our 2026-2027 season. I thought about going out with some nostalgic revivals from my 17 years here, or directing my face off this year, filling the season with plays from my personal bucket list. But there is too much good work out there right now that I want to share with DC audiences, so I've opted for a classic Studio season, albeit one filled with artists who have helped make my time here so rich.

The season features three audience-favorite playwrights we're bringing back to our stages, each responsible for historic critical and commercial success at Studio: James Ijames (Fat Ham, Good Bones) with Wilderness Generation, Sanaz Toossi (English) with Wish You Were Here, and Joshua Harmon (Bad Jews, Admissions) with We Had a World. Following in the tradition of exposing our audiences to world-class British playwrights like Mike Bartlett, Duncan Macmillan, and Nina Raine, we're producing James Graham's Punch, a story of violence and redemption that just won the Olivier award for Best Play. We're bringing Liberation to DC, one of the most buzzed-about plays to premiere in recent years, written by my graduate school classmate Bess Wohl. There's also a rediscovered classic from the canon of Black American theatre: Wine in the Wilderness by the great Alice Childress. That will round out an unplanned trilogy of Black classics by Psalmayene 24 (after The Colored Museum and Purlie Victorious).

I'm excited to close out my tenure with such a powerful season and turn over the reins at Studio on a powerful note. I hope you'll join us.
