Friends,
Our 2022-2023 season is here! I hope that you feel as energized by the season as we do.
This will be our largest subscription series ever: six productions that range from intimate drama to riotous comedy to theatrical spectacle to celebrated musical. We designed it to be a thrilling way to return to the collective human experience of live theatre.
A season highlight is the new, Studio-commissioned play Good Bones by 2022 Pulitzer Prize winner James Ijames. We hosted a reading of the play a few years ago and there was an electricity in the room that got me really excited, particularly given the DC-adjacent themes it explores—gentrification and changing neighborhoods.
We’re also presenting our first Lynn Nottage production: her Tony-nominated comedy Clyde’s, heralded as the funniest play to hit Broadway in quite some time.
Joining them are English, an exploration of how speaking a new language both expands the world and changes your voice, and critical favorite Heroes of the Fourth Turning, a captivating portrait of the Catholic right that we’re producing just in time for the midterms. Next season will also mark my post-pandemic to directing live theatre, with the sweeping drama about addiction and recovery People, Places & Things and the finale of our season, Tony-winning musical Fun Home.
Read on to learn more. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre soon.
Yours,
David Muse
Artistic Director
