The Mother Play: A Play in Five Evictions Community Partners

In conjunction with this production, Studio is collaborating with three of our long-time community partners whose missions are particularly aligned with the themes of The Mother PlayN Street Village – A community of hope and healing for women, which supports women experiencing homelessness in DC; Us Helping Us, People Into Living Inc., which works to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS and provide holistic health services to improve the health and well-being of Black gay men in DC; and Whitman-Walker Health, which was founded to support the needs of the LGBTQ community and has been a first responder and care-provider for those living with HIV for more than fifty years. Whitman-Walker Health also now houses the work of the Carl Vogel Center, founded by Paula Vogel’s father to honor her brother, Carl.

In addition, Studio is partnering with the following organizations to amplify their missions—to address housing insecurity and to combat homophobia and discrimination—which reflect the plot of The Mother Play

Metro DC PFLAG

Metro DC PFLAG is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization which works to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Our family values stress education, understanding, acceptance, and support, but most of all love, thereby empowering our children—straight and gay—to lead happy and productive lives.

Legal Aid DC

Legal Aid DC has provided free legal assistance for people living in poverty in DC since 1932. Their attorneys help domestic violence survivors get protection, immigrants secure their status, and tenants fight eviction. Each year, they assist more than 10,000 people with their legal problems.

Empower DC

Empower DC advances racial, economic and environmental justice by investing in the leadership and organized political power of DC’s lowest income residents and communities. Current campaigns include tenant protections and fair housing, environmental justice advocacy in Ward 7 and across the District, creating accountability around the use of public lands, and strengthening DC’s public schools.
