Studio Theatre, in conjunction with CODAworx Summit, The Value of International Artistic Collaboration, presents a conversation featuring leaders from the DC theatre scene including Maria Manuela Goyanes (Artistic Director, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company/LCT3 at Lincoln Center), David Muse (Artistic Director, Studio Theatre), and Drew Lichtenberg (Artistic Producer, STC), in discussion with two luminaries in the public art world, Vincent Roy (Founder, EXMURO) and Jeremy Crandell (Arts Producer, Burning Man) as part of the DC International Theatre Festival.
Vincent Roy has been active in the Québec art scene for more than twenty years. In 2007, he founded Exmuro art public, a non-profit organization dedicated to the design, production, exhibition, and touring of contemporary art projects in public spaces. Through his various initiatives, he aims to enrich the urban experience by sparking encounters, dialogue, and reflection.
Since then, he has conceived and led over fifty urban art projects, including several large-scale productions that have left a lasting mark on Canadian’s cultural landscape, such as Passages Insolites, a major public art festival presented every summer for 10 years. He also launched an ambitious public art circulation program that brought more that 35 artworks across Canada, USA, Europe and Asia. In 2014, he received the François-Samson Award for his outstanding contribution to arts and culture in Québec.
He founded Exmuro with the belief that visual art deserves a stronger presence in the urban space, and that if we truly believe in the power of art, it must reach out to people and weave itself into their daily lives.
Jeremy Crandell is an accomplished art project manager and producer with a deep track record of delivering ambitious public artworks and cultural productions. He has served Burning Man Project’s Art Department since 2001, co-leading from 2016 to 2019, in supporting hundreds of artists sharing their work in Black Rock City. He is currently the Man Pavilion Project Manager leading the teams that build the Man and the structure the effigy stands on.
Jeremy was a project manager for UAP, delivering seven site-specific sculptures for Desert X AlUla 2022 in Saudi Arabia. He has collaborated with internationally recognized studios including La Machine, Studio Drift, Drone Stories and Google’s Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) team. Known for his calm leadership in complex environments, he works seamlessly across design, fabrication, and logistics.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jeremy brings cultural fluency, technical skill, and creative precision to every project he undertakes.
