Studio Theatre offers internships to qualified college students, graduates, and young professionals, providing dynamic, first-hand training on the inner workings of a regional theatre.
Internships are offered in a myriad of areas including: administration, arts management, audience services, business, development, education, literary, marketing, and production. Studio’s interns work alongside industry professionals behind the scenes and in the office, developing skills for future careers in the arts.
Studio Theatre’s internship program is a part-time commitment, offering educational seminars, outside activities, and the opportunity for interns to immerse themselves in a variety of roles during Studio’s season.
All Studio Theatre internships are unpaid.

The Spring program is posted around end of December. The Summer program is posted on our website around end of January. The Fall program is posted around end of July.
Applicants are usually selected based on a telephone interview followed by an interview with the department to which the intern is applying.
The deadline for Spring applications is usually around early January. The deadline for the Summer program is near the beginning of April. The deadline for 2016 Fall applications will be around end of August.
Occasionally a position is still open after the deadline has passed. The description on our website will indicate if we are still accepting applications past the deadline.
Many universities offer programs that allow students to receive credit for internships completed with organizations not affiliated with the university. Check with your university department head or advisor to see what steps you need to complete in order to receive credit. We will be happy to share information with your advisors regarding the responsibilities you are assigned during your time at Studio Theatre along with an evaluation of your work.
No, there is no housing provided for our interns. However, as Washington, DC is a destination for many summer interns in a variety of fields, many universities in the city offer summer housing designed specifically for students seeking internships. Many of our interns also stay with friends or family in the area.

Interns receive FREE tickets to shows at Studio Theatre. In addition, there are often opportunities to see shows at other area theatres.
Internships are usually two to four months. The Fall is usually September to December and the Spring is usually January to April. The Summer program usually starts around May and end around August.
We offer internships in all areas of our theatre including production, administration, public relations and marketing, development, events, business, audience services, literary, and casting. While each intern will be assigned to a specific department for their general tasks, there are certain projects in which all interns will participate. Also, the internship program includes seminars during the course of the internship. Each seminar is lead by theatre professionals and provides insight into working in the the industry.
