When are next season’s Apprenticeship position listings posted?

Apprentice positions are posted on our website around mid-fall for the upcoming season and begin the following July.

How competitive is the selection process?

Due to the high number of highly qualified applicants Studio receives each year, the selection process is very competitive.

How does the selection process work?

Eligible applicants are contacted via email for a telephone interview. Finalists are selected for an interview with the relevant department head.

What kind of experience do I need to be eligible for an apprenticeship?

Apprentices at Studio Theatre are provided experience and opportunities within the area of their apprenticeship. Therefore, the experience of the applicant should be appropriate to the position that they are applying for.

What is the deadline for applying for an apprentice position?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. If there is not a match from the applications that are submitted prior to the deadline, then the position will remain open until filled. The description on the website will indicate if a position is still open.

Does Studio Theatre offer short-term or part-time apprenticeships?

Apprenticeships are full-time, year-long positions.

Does Studio Theatre provide housing for apprentices?

Yes! Studio Theatre provides state of the art housing for all apprentices. Butler House, located in the bustling Columbia Heights neighborhood in Washington DC, is just a short walk from the Theatre. The complex provides each apprentice with his or her own private bedroom, completely furnished with paid utilities. This 14-bedroom, six-bathroom row house affords Studio apprentices a place to call home during their year in Washington DC. Read about it here.

What kind of pay can be expected with an apprenticeship?

Studio Theatre provides a modest stipend to assist with daily expenses, including transportation, disbursed biweekly over the 50-week apprenticeship.

Do I need a car in Washington DC?

We do not recommend bringing a car to DC. You won’t need your car to get to work or to make the most of your time in here. Parking is challenging and expensive in the heart of the city (most staff do not commute by car). Apprentice housing is a fifteen-minute walk from the Theatre and Washington DC has an efficient public transportation system.  Many apprentices (and staff) have found biking one of the best ways to get around the District.
