From its 1978 beginnings in a former hot-dog warehouse to its place today as the arts anchor of a vibrant neighborhood, Studio Theatre has been committed to artistic excellence and the intimate relationship between actor and audience.

Studio Theatre produces exceptional contemporary theatre in deliberately intimate spaces, fostering a more thoughtful, more empathetic, and more connected community, in Washington DC and beyond.

Studio’s Season is the centerpiece of our artistic initiatives, which also include a robust new works program and a variety of ways for audiences to engage with the plays, process, and people behind the work on our stages.

David Muse

2016-2017 marks Muse’s seventh season as Artistic Director of Studio Theatre.  For Studio he has directed Chimerica, Constellations, Murder Ballad, Cock, Tribes, The Real Thing, An Iliad, Dirt, Bachelorette, The Habit of Art, Venus in Fur, Circle Mirror Transformation, reasons to be pretty, Blackbird, Frozen, and The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow. Previously, he was Associate Artistic Director of Shakespeare Theatre Company, where he directed seven productions, including Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and Coriolanus.

Studio Theatre nurtures future generations of theatregoers and professionals through our student matinee program, our Apprenticeship and Internship Program, and rigorous training through The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory.
