BE GENEROUS!Your generous contributions will help to underwrite programs enriching the lives of Washington, DC youth and low-moderate income residents in The Studio Theatre’s Logan Circle neighborhood. Your donations will support the following initiatives: - Arts Motivating Youth (A.M.Y.) inspires young people to greater achievement through the experience of theatre as acting students, audience members and professional theatre artists and administrators.
- Studio District forges a cohesive urban community in our rapidly changing Logan Circle/Shaw neighborhood, centered around a shared experience of the theatre. Working with both longtime residents and newcomers in the area, Studio District provides low-moderate income residents of Washington's Shaw/Logan Circle neighborhood with increased access to the Studio's productions.
- Pay-What-You-Can performances allow students and low-moderate income residents of Washington, DC to see every production at The Studio Theatre for as little as 25 cents.
Arts Motivating Youth (A.M.Y.) imparts the joy of theatre through three programs:
- Youth On-Stage offers scholarships in the Acting Conservatory’s rigorous Young Actors Program to youth from low-income neighborhoods who have the interest and discipline to pursue training but lack the financial resources. As a result of the successful completion of The Studio Theatre’s building expansion, A.M.Y. will grow to double the number of youth served.
- Passport to the Imagination guides students and teachers in classroom study of lively contemporary plays, then brings them to free performances followed by discussions with educators and artists. Through this program, hundreds of youth study and attend free performances of plays that have a special relevance to their lives.
- The Studio Theatre Apprenticeship Program cultivates future professional theatre artists and administrators by providing college students and graduates with hands-on apprenticeships in many departments of The Studio Theatre.
The Studio District Neighborhood Initiative provides low-moderate income residents of Washington’s Shaw/Logan Circle neighborhood with increased access to The Studio Theatre’s plays and productions throughout the year. The Studio District has been designated by a resolution of the Council of the District of Columbia as the area bound by 16th Street, NW to the west, 11th Street, NW to the east, M Street NW to the south and Florida Avenue, NW.
- Studio District Nights: Upon proof of address on Studio District Nights, residents of the Studio District can purchase a ticket of an average $42 value for $10. The Studio District ensures that low/moderate income residents of this growing neighborhood continue to have access to all productions in The Studio Theatre’s subscription season.
- Exclusive Studio District Season Subscriptions: Area residents are offered specially discounted season subscriptions, making the season more affordable to low-moderate income residents. By so doing, the Studio District neighborhood initiative encourages theatergoing among an audience who might not normally consider it.
- Community Space: The Studio Theatre opens its doors to not-for-profit community groups and arts organizations, allowing them to use our facility for free. For example, in summer of 2006, The Studio Theatre hosted the D.C. Hip-Hop Theatre Festival, and the Black Women’s Playwrights Festival.
The Studio District Neighborhood Initiative is funded in part by American Express.
To celebrate The Studio Theatre’s 30th Anniversary, $30 discount tickets will be offered 30 minutes before performances throughout the season, opening doors to audiences from all financial backgrounds.
Pay-What-You-Can performances provide people with the rare opportunity to experience live theatre for as little as 25 cents. This initiative ensures that financial
constraints do not preclude people from experiencing the excitement of live theatre.
