Waitlist Usher

                  From Solomon
I just wanted to say hello to everyone as I've been "out
of circulation" and have not had a chance to see the great volunteers. I
miss working with you all. You guys are really awesome and continue to make
an impact on the daily operation theatre. I've always said that the
volunteers can make the theatre stronger, and you continue to prove me
right!

Wow! What an amazing past couple of months we've had here
at that theatre. I was in rehearsal for All That I Will Ever Be for the
months of Jan and Feb, all while planning our biggest gala ever, and am now
in performance. Soon I will return for two weeks to open The History Boys
and RainPan43.

Then will go right into rehearsal for The Internationalist
with Directed by Kirk Jackson, who helmed last season’s Rosencrantz &
Guildenstern are Dead, the production brings together acclaimed Tyler Pierce
(from Fat Pig) Cameron McNary (Jenny Chow) and the always lovable Holly
Twyford, making her long-awaited return to the Washington stage!

As the department changes and I move further away from the
ushers I just want you to know that I'm still heavily interested in the
experience here. My staff understands your importance, even if
...sometimes... they don't know how to show it.

As you know, the volunteer coordinator position had been
vacant for while, but with the newly appointed and exceptional Matthew
Dwyer, we are finally back up to speed with scheduling and coordination.
Thank you all for bearing with us during this, sometimes rough,
transitional period. And while things didn't completely as planned (or
completely poorly either) you all were really awesome and I thank you for
that.

But while I'm still the director of this department, the
value sets I've embraced will continue to prevail. So...

I WANT TO KNOW how's it going. If you have some input,
have experienced any problems, or need to get something off your chest,
please don't hesitate to email me.
I know what it used to be like, as I started out as a
volunteer 10 years ago, and I promise not to let my departure negatively
effect what it means to be such a valuable asset the theatre.

It is VERY IMPORTANT TO ME that you are taken care of in
the most efficient and respectful manner.
(I'm not talking about the crazy moments right before a
show starts...but, yes, everything else) Are you being scheduled quickly,
and your being trained completely and are you having fun?

Only you can tell me if things are different, only you can
help us get even better and only you can prevent forest fires.

                  Fresh New Comedy!

                  THE INTERNATIONALIST

                  By Anne Washburn
                  Directed by Kirk Jackson
Featuring Tyler Pierce, Holly Twyford and Cameron McNary
                  In the Milton Theatre

New York’s hip young theatre company 13P developed this
fresh and fascinating comedy by one of their resident playwrights. Anne
Washburn follows an American businessman lost in translation in this
mysterious, multilingual romance.

Nearly 500 friends and fans of The Studio Theatre
gathered on February 2, 2008 at 6:30pm to celebrate the Studio’s 30th
Anniversary Gala: The Studio Turns 30: Let Us Eat Cake! Plush pink carpets
and a horse-drawn carriage

The evening’s Anniversary Musicale highlighted five
memorable performances from The Studio Theatre’s history. Dazzling vocalist
Tami Tappan-Damiano came from Los Angeles for her rendition of “The Awful
Truth” from Really Rosie; Washington’s own J. Fred shiffman reprised his
Helen Hayes award-winning performance of “What More Can I Say?” from
Falsettoland; from Atlanta, Georgia, songstress Bernardine Mitchell belted
her heart out to the tunes from her star role in Bessie’s Blues; Bobby Smith
gave a touching performance of “Paris Through the Window” from his Helen
Hayes award-winning role in A Class Act, and from Raleigh, North Carolina,
former Broadway Dreamgirl Julia Nixon delighted audiences with her Helen
Hayes award-winning performance singing “Lot’s Wife” from Caroline, Or
Change.

The 2008 gala raised over $400,000 to support the Studio’s
artistic, educational and community outreach programs, which open the doors
of The Studio Theatre and The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory to
underserved youth and residents from Washington, DC’s low-moderate income
neighborhoods.

The Studio Theatre thanks the 65 volunteers who worked all
evening to help pull off this monumental success

Yeah...that's Solomon. He did it again.
