
The Studio Theatre is known locally and nationally for creating the best in contemporary theatre. The finest acting talent performs in its beautiful new four-theatre complex, which had its grand opening in November 2004. The Theatre's high artistic standards have produced over 200 Helen Hayes Award nominations, many of them for Outstanding Acting. The two additional components of The Studio Theatre include The Studio Theatre Secondstage, which provides invaluable opportunity to emerging and established actors and directors in the nation's capitol, and The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory, now in its 32nd year, is the oldest and most renowned institution of its kind in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory program is dedicated to training actors to their fullest artistic potential, as well as encouraging standards of excellence, discipline, and the personal commitment of the seasoned professional.
The union of a professional theatre and an Acting Conservatory allows the student unique opportunities to gain real experience and to create lifelong networks. The Conservatory has trained over 8,000 actors and directors, now performing on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in theatre and film in the Washington, D.C. area and all major regions of the country.

Classes are offered each semester for young people, ages 12-17. The Young Actors program, now in its twentieth year, includes classes from September to May after school and on weekends, and offers a summer intensive daily program. To continue The Studio Theatre's mission to ensure accessibility to the performing arts for the entire community and to promote public awareness of the role of the arts in the quality of life and economic development, our Artists Motivating Youth (AMY) program was created in 1991. We reserve slots in all Young Actors classes for scholarships to students who have an interest in the performing arts but lack the financial resources.

The success of the Conservatory depends not only on the students, but also upon the skill, motivation, hard work and patience of the teaching staff. Comprised of working professionals, as well as voice and movement specialists, the dedicated faculty of 20 has been consistent through the years. And with the average teacher/student ratio of 1:12, each student receives the most individualized attention.

The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory has six state-of-the-art classrooms. These are also available free of charge to registered students of the conservatory for class rehearsal, an invaluable resource to the actor in training. Students can enjoy the amenities of the student lounge under a stunning glass atrium, blocks from the Dupont Circle metro in the dynamic, exploding Logan Circle neighborhood downtown in the District of Columbia.
